Our Impact On Community

Community participation and trust are at the heart of what we do. After almost 20 years in the field, we’ve earned a high degree of confidence, which has allowed us to encourage female enrolment and attendance, access to technology, and build a sense of community ownership.

Our Impact
On Girl’s Education

DIL is committed to providing a girl-friendly education, with a 68% female student enrollment rate and women comprising 95% of the school staff. DIL’s child-centred approach emphasises gender equality. Girls are encouraged to take the lead in the classroom, co-curricular activities, and project-based activities. Often, these young girls set examples for the entire community as they are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

DIL Trust UK Schools are predominantly in agricultural villages where livelihoods depend on manual labour and every member of the household has a key role to play. Before DIL Trust UK schools, only men would pursue higher education and women tended to stay at home to work as labourers or farmers.

However, after a DIL Trust UK education, women have become salary contributing members of the home and have gone on to pursue Bachelor’s Degrees and much more. These women are now often sought out for advice and represent women in any official community event.

DIL Trust UK Alumni are leading the way, working in the government, banks, private organisations and many give back to DIL Schools as teachers, paving the way for the next generation of learners!

Fewer Child Marriages

Fewer Child Marriages

have been reported in our communities, and girls have been completing their secondary education and ultimately pursuing work. Girls who complete primary education are less likely to get married before 18 or become victims of domestic abuse and have fewer children.

Community Action Project

Through Community Action Projects, DIL Trust UK students identify concerns in their local areas and engage with the communities to build awareness and propose solutions for these problems. In the process, they strengthen critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Parent-Teachers Association

The DIL Trust UK’s holistic approach for student learning and community empowerment comes from ensuring parents are well-informed and engaged in their children’s school experience.

Parent-teacher meetings boast more than 90% attendance and focus on empowering parents to learn and support their children’s learning at home. The DIL Trust Library facilities are also open to the public, building an ethos of community ownership.

Monthly reports are shared with Parents, addressing issues like low marks, lack of uniforms, and cleanliness, aiming to raise awareness and motivate parents to support their children’s school experience. Parents began to appreciate the holistic approach of investing in a Child’s education, realising the value that hygiene and punctuality add to building self-discipline and focus. They felt inspired to take an active role in their kids’ educational experience and committed to overcoming the issues addressed.
